Kente Print from Thailand

I came across the Kente print bags, necklaces and bracelets at a fair and liked them so much that I added the items onto our website.

Kente cloth and design originated from the Akan ethnic group of South Ghana.  It used to be worn by Akan royals on important occasions, but has since become more widespread.

The women behind our collection are Khun Nutana Piamkulawanich and her sister, Khun Lakhana Janejirakosit. They are the second generation in their family to continue the textiles and fabrics business.

Because of their success in Africa, Khun Nutana decided to spin off to do bags and accessories using the same fabric designs for the international market. They named their new brand “WINAWA” – a combination of their daughters’ names, Win and Awa.

When asked why she decided to start her own brand, she replied “Because it is in my blood. I saw my mom and dad doing textile factory since I was very young. I love fabric and designs.”

Khun Nutana and her sister do their own designs. They use screen printing machine to do reactive print on all their fabrics to ensure the colors are bright and the color fastness is good.

Khun Nutana also commented “I can say that it is my destiny to get to know African textiles and designs. I fell in love with the people and their cultures.”

Beautiful Quilling from Thailand

The beautiful quilling cards on our website is done by Khun Apichart from Thailand.

We would like to introduce Khun Apichart, the man behind our beautiful quilling cards.

After being in the insurance business for 15 years, Khun Apichart decided to follow his dream of having his own business.  Because of his love for handcrafts since he was young, he decided to start his own paper quilling business seven years ago and has never looked back.

Beautiful Quilling, Khun Apichart, Thailand

The beginning of his business was quite tough as he did not have any customers nor did he know who or where to sell it.  He started attending trade fairs and slowly built up his orders both locally and internationally.

He buys the papers and cuts them all himself by hand. Beautiful Quilling, Khun Apichart, Thailand

For inspirations, he draws from nature and allthe colors around him.  He usually starts with some sketches, then place different color strips together until he sees a combination he likes.  From the beginning of the design to the end result of producing a card, it takes Khun Apichart an average of one to two hours, depending on how intricate the design is.

Being dedicated to his craft, Khun Apichart comes out with new designs every month, partly as a challenge to himself, and partly for his loyal customers.

In addition to his business, Khun Apichart also shares his love and expertise for quilling by giving workshops three to four times a year.

From the beautiful designs and the high quality of his cards, you can see the labour of love from Khun Apichart!

Shells and Swells

Beach holidays are probably the most memorable times throughout our childhoods as well as when we are grown up.  Who does not remember those happy and fun days when we ran around like crazy, built sand castles, jumped into the water, body surfed with the waves, dug for crabs and collected all kinds of seashells along the beach while we got more and more tanned by the daily sun.

Even as adults, we have fond memories of how we lazed around in the sun, sipped fresh juice directly from a coconut, felt the hot sand under our feet, and the cooling off in the water when it became absolutely positively too hot…

You may still have some of those shells you brought home at home.

If you no longer have those shells, or you simply love seashells, take a look at our special tableware line, made out of turban, limpet and abalone shells.  They will definitely bring back some sun, sand and beach to your tabletop every day.

This collection is manufactured in a small factory in Thailand, owned and operated by a husband and wife team.  The husband chooses the shells and designs the products according to the shape of each shell.  His wife markets and sells the products alongside with their daughters.  A wonderful and successful family teamwork.

Each piece is handmade by their small team of craftsmen, so needless to say, each piece is unique, as is each shell, and of course, only comes in limited quantities.
